A Neighbourhood in Crisis

The Gare district surrounding Luxembourg's central train station has become the epicentre of a drug trade that threatens the entire community.

Open Drug Dealing

The Gare area has long been notorious for open-air drug dealing. Residents and businesses report daily harassment, with dealers operating openly in broad daylight. Police have conducted multiple large-scale operations, yet the problem persists.

Transit Hub for Trafficking

Luxembourg has become a key transit point in European drug trade. In 2025 alone, over 873 kg of cocaine, 2.2 tonnes of cannabis, and 74 kg of methamphetamine were seized at the Cargo Centre — quantities that illustrate the scale of the operation.

Community Under Siege

Families live in fear. Shopkeepers face extortion. The crime rate in Gare dropped only 10% after significant police reinforcement. Violent robberies and burglaries have displaced thousands of residents from the area.

European-Level Problem

Luxembourg's wastewater analysis shows more cocaine residue per capita than Barcelona. Europol warns that shifting pressure from Belgium and the Netherlands is pushing criminal networks toward smaller countries — including Luxembourg.

Key insight: While most drugs seized in Luxembourg transit through the country rather than being consumed locally, the associated crime — open dealing, violent robbery, and community intimidation — directly impacts residents of Gare and surrounding districts.
